'Scouts Feet Sawed Off' and Other True Old West Tales on ghostcowboy.com; New Web Site Launched

(PRWeb) March 7, 2007 -- In December 1902 while scouting along the border of Arizona and Mexico, "California Dan" Ryan fell into the hands of Yaquis Indians who tried him and condemned him to death. Unfortunately for Ryan, the means of death involved "dull saws" and a short walk. Thus was life on the American frontier, when the Old West was young.

The tale of California Dan is one of the true stories posted daily on the new web site Ghost Cowboy. The growing collection includes tales of deprivations by cowboys and Indians, lost mines, shootouts with outlaws and fair maidens in distress. Most of the stories are actual news articles from the 1800s and early 1900s and haven't been told in more than 150 years. All of the stories are true.

"In the late 1800s the world was captivated by the stories coming out of the American frontier," said site editor William Booth. "Newspapers around the world wrote of cowboys, Indians, settlers and the outlaws who preyed on them. Ghost Cowboy gives readers and history buffs an opportunity to escape to that world and read brutally honest depictions of life on the frontier. The stories are often told by writers who experience the deprivations first hand. This is American history as it really happened."

Visitors will read about famous outlaws like Butch Cassidy and Jessie James and learn for the first time about the notorious outlaw Kep Queen, who was tracked and shot by a posse in Indian Territory. "Queen spent the time between the shooting and his death in praying and cursing," wrote the reporter who documented his death.

Visitors to Ghost Cowboy can also browse photo galleries of cowboys, Indians, miners and settlers as well as get a look at the real Deadwood, made famous in the HBO series of the same name.

Thousands of fictional stories have been written about the old west, but now readers can see what life was actually like on the American frontier in what could be described as a 150-year-old adventure blog. Each day brings a new true adventure that will thrill readers.
